Abstract
The proximity of the petro-clival region to the brain stem, to the vertebro-basilar arterial system and to the cranial nerves, makes its surgical exposure extremely difficult. Various surgical approaches to this area have been employed for tumor
removal. As neurosurgeons and neurotologists work more closely together, their combined expertise has allowed easier access to this region. Retrolabyrinthine presigmoid approach, petrosal approach which constitute one of such approaches, enables
neurosurgeon and neurotologists to gain an easy access to lesions in petroclival region.
Fifteen patients with tumors located at the petro-clival region were operated upon from 1991 to 1993 using retrolabyrinthine presigmoid approach. Surgical highpoints and results were discussed from the viewpoint of otolaryngoligists. (Korean J
